Second Miracle

Hopefully Blessed Solanus Casey will soon be in the line of the porter saints of the Church.  God, I think, has a fondness for humble gate keepers.

I highly recommend a biography of Fr. Solanus titled “The Porter of St. Bonaventure’s” by James Patrick Derum — it was published in 1968 and my mom had a hardback copy of it. The book contains many personal reminiscences from people who had met Fr. Solanus and whose memories of him were still pretty fresh, since he had died only 10 years before (in 1957). He was very much a beloved figure in Detroit at the time (and I’m sure he still is).

I know Mary’s mother. There are a lot of healings attributed to Solanus, but this one might be the one that makes him a saint.

Ask for Solanus, Evening Prayer (Mary’s Canticle) says it all everyday. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and has lifted up the lowly.

I’ll look up your book recommendation Elaine- thank you.

This is a website of testimonials from people who had met or been healed by Blessed Solanus Casey. He had great impact on many people it seems. Blessed Solanus reminds me of St Charbel – humble and simple and both have produced a great number of healings.

I remembered reading Blessed Solanus Casey had severe eczema (and may have passed away from complications from eczema). My 3rd oldest daughter has had eczema since she was 2yo and I have normally prayed to the Archangel Raphael for healing (we received an answer to our prayers on the feast of the archangels one year with cream that she has used to help). I will add Blessed Solanus Casey to my prayers of intercession. Eczema is a silent (and sometimes painful) burden to carry. Blessed Solanus would have suffered dearly with the condition. I know some days my daughter gets quite frustrated and down.
