Genesis 9:6 cannot be annulled or contravened, and Church Tradition has always taught that till these sentimental old fools who under Vatican II call themselves bishops and priests came along. That said, no one should want the capital punishment to be used, but Dennis Prager points out in his Rational Bible Series on Genesis that the death penalty is the moral cornerstone of society.
Now think about this: Democrats will happily visit capital punishment on a pre-born baby conceived from rape or incest (or anything else, for that matter), but Democrats want to excuse the violent sadistic serial killer from the capital punishment.
Our Pope and his clergy feel pity for murderous criminals, but they care not one wit for the victims and their families.

One can observe this by the giddiness the reversal receives.
Spot on, and I might add that this is the raison d’etre of leftists staying in the Church – to (attempt to) destroy Her from within rather than being intellectually honest and joining a self-interpreting, but ostensibly Christian sect or denomination.
Once more, progressivism only destroys, never produces – except misery and opportunities for graft.
According to my sons from their time in college and their talks about religion with their classmates, the speed with which modern churches happily change or modify their teachings when confronted by the World is a leading reason they just don’t believe it.

One need only look at the Anglican Church, in most of its iterations, to see the affect of attempting to change their morality. Even King Charles has changed his title to “Defender of Faith”, signifying the church has more than one faith system of belief.
