@Frank: Yes, she should have been removed months ago (but they were much more focused on Matt Gaetz): however Craig Goldman (R-12th TX Cong District) was elected Nov 5th and takes office Jan 3rd, so the damage will finally be repaired.

The failure here is that of her family. They haven’t any excuses. She’s vested for retirement benefits and Medicare. If she could not lawfully execute a letter of resignation, a formal notification should have been sent to the Speaker by her guardian or P.O.A with supporting documentation as needed.
Another set of culprits would be her staff. If Granger’s family told them nothing, they should have notified the Speaker. Per one article, the district office was unmanned when reporters arrived to inquire.
The danger is that the left has become a Borg-like despot. Yes, there is a spokesperson, but if you remove that spokesperson, there is another and another. The public face makes no difference. The real power is layers and layers of people driven by their appetites for power, control, privileges etc. Character was left by the wayside decades ago and all we are left with is fundamentally amoral people looking out for themselves.

She has three children, all apparently resident around Fort Worth – a pair of twins age 52 and their older brother age 55. She’s given capsule accounts of her biography in the past (as recently as 2008) which don’t match surviving documentation. She uses the surname of her children rather than her maiden name or her last married name. She’s been through at least three sets of divorce proceedings, two to the father of her children (in 1973 / 74 and 1979) and one to a subsequent husband (ca. 1983). Does not appear to have a husband at this time. Scuttlebutt is now emerging of her wandering the hallways of her apartment building in DC asking passers-by where she lived; passable guess that she was living alone there.
Very sad, however bad her politics.

Her sons are contending she’s still residing in the independent living section of the complex and not yet in memory care. They’ve also said her decline has been quite rapid. Possibly true. We had a dear friend who was by all appearances fine in August of 2004 and in a locked ward by November 2005 (not quite sure if her husband had died or not – he had).

NB, Mrs Granger resigned from the Appropriations Committee in April, so she knew she was not up to that anymore. As soon as her children moved her gear into her room at that place, they should have formally notified the Speaker. By what accounts have appeared, her district staff shut the office just before Thanksgiving.
