News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:
U.S. — American commentator and former attorney David French formed a new group Tuesday which he calls “Evangelicals For Satan.”
“Christians who support God are hypocrites and must be taught a lesson. That’s why I’m supporting Satan,” French said in a NY Times opinion piece called “The Christian Case For Building A Golden Idol Of Satan And Bowing To It.”
American evangelicals were immediately critical of French’s new movement. “Does he even know what a Christian is?” asked Rod Grantly, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota preacher. “Rooting for Satan is kind of the opposite of Christianity, isn’t it?”
Still, some remained supportive and even offered to join his group, admitting that they weren’t sure it made sense, but noted that David French seemed pretty smart so he must know what he’s doing. “He hates Trump, I hate Trump. The logic checks out,” said Alan Gingrich, an extremely righteous Christian and known Never-Trumper. “God will certainly reward me for my advanced and thoughtful nuance on this matter.”
French has informed evangelicals that he is way smarter than them and, therefore, correct. “The only way Christians can be loyal to Christ is by serving Satan,” he said. “It’s the only way!”
At publishing time, a local church had asked David French to “please stop talking about how great Satan is.”
Go here to read the rest. Getting a soul for nothing, absolutely nothing, is always the epitome of deviltry, and when considering Eternity all things of Earth are nothing.
Why does David French even pretend to be a conservative Christian Evangelical? My two brothers and sister are conservative Christian Evangelicals, and nothing like him. The conservative Christian Evangelicals at the local Filipino Baptist church that my wife sometimes goes to are nothing like him. My former boss at work – a Southern Baptist which is about as conservative Christian Evangelical as you can get – is nothing like him, nor anyone is all his extended family. David French is a liberal period. Just another freaking liberal who passes himself off as a compassionate and open-minded conservative. His about-face with respect to sodomy demonstrates that. A worthless, useless excuse of a human being.
If David French didn’t pretend to be a “conservative” Christian Evangelical, he wouldn’t have a career. The point of his existence is to say “Trump, the MAGA Republicans and the Christian Nationalists are so bad that even I cannot stand for it.” Leftists understand so little about non-leftist that they believe that this is actually an effective way of getting Christians to change their votes. If French were simply another liberal he would be lost in the shuffle, especially since he’s an old white guy.
In the recent NYT article, French claims that this is the first time that he plans to vote for a democratic candidate, and he is only doing so because the current situation is so uniquely dire.
Which is the same thing he said in 2020. And 2016. And he will say again in 2028.
It’s the equivalent of those people who would call into Rush Limbaugh and say “Rush, I’ve been a registered republican for all my life, but I think we have to adopt every democrat position if we want to succeed this time.”
You’ll note that French attended a common-and-garden college in Tennessee, yet somehow managed to land a berth at Harvard Law School. which he attended. Who was his patron? (Neither he nor his wife came from money). He practiced law (in Philadelphia, IIRC), then after about three years decamped to Kentucky and set up shop as counsel to some non-profit (the Alliance Defending Freedom, IIRC). He remains a member of the Kentucky bar, though his listing indicates he is not taking clients. He abandoned law practice entirely in 2004, bar one year as a JAG in the Green Zone in Baghdad (an experience he milks regularly). One of National Review‘s IRS 990 forms indicated they were paying him > $160,000 a year to produce occasional topical commentary. He and his family live in a large house near Columbia, Tn. NR decided he and Jonah Goldberg were not worth the candle so they set up The Dispatch receiving patronage from who knows. There’s a tenth planet in this guy’s life.
I can easily see the Christian argument for throwing up your hands at both major party candidates.
But I can only see a Patriotic Association argument for voting for the current regime in power.
