Digital unicorns. Just what we need.
Some of this is reminding me of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel Dune. As part of its history there is supposed to be the Great Revolt against thinking machines. In a preface titled the Terminology of the Imperium it’s defined:
*
Jihad, Butlerian: (see also Great Revolt)-the crusade against computers, thinking machines, and conscious robots begun in 201 B.G. and concluded in 108 B.G. Its chief commandment remains in the O.C. Bible as “Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.”
*
B.G. is defined as dates before Before Guild (the Spacing Guild monopoly- the spice must flow). The O.C. Bible is the Orange Catholic Bible produced by the Commission of Ecumenical Translators. A mash-up of various religions. Sounds very synodal.
AI: “He road into town.”, “He rained as king.” “The sun of God…”
