Fresh from Federal prison, hours after being released, Peter Navarro speaks at the Republican convention.  You don’t get much more mainstream than 75 year old Peter Navarro.  A trade expert, he has authored over 16 books, mostly on trade policy.  From 1994-2016 he was a Democrat, and a frequent informal advisor to the Clinton and Obama administrations.

He became a trade advisor to Trump in 2017 and rejoined the Republican party.  He quickly became Trump’s principal advisor on trade and other economic issues.  During Covid he clashed with Anthony Fauci over stay at home orders and shutting down the economy.  He became a staunch activist in contending that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen.  He defied the subpoenas of the January 6 Star Chamber, refusing to testify or supply documents, citing Executive Privilege.  Prosecuted by the Biden DOJ, he was found guilty and sentenced to 4 months on Federal prison.  He became the first White House official to be prosecuted for contempt of Congress.

In his speech he noted that if the Biden official could proceed criminally against him and Trump, they could do so to anyone of us.
