I think there are two very important reasons for this camaraderie, though there may be others.

First, nearly all of them were followers of Christ of some kind or another. Second, they all honored the Revolution and the Founding Fathers.

Because these values are no longer shared by the sides currently in conflict one must conclude tgatany future conflict on this soil would undoubtedly be very different.

I would note that when I went to Vietnam a few years ago with my wife and her family (Thai) we were treated quite well by the people. Even went to the war museum. There was curiosity on the part of their veterans but no hostility toward us. They were interested in my role in the war and I noted they talked about their present situation in life, which they seemed to consider quite satisfactory. We did not discuss the politics of the war, only our participation.
