Supreme Court Will Take Up Trump Immunity Case

Schadenfreude is what I am feeling tonight.  The decision of the Supreme Court to take up the question of Trump immunity, with oral arguments in April, make it unlikely that the J6 lynching trial will occur before the November election.  This is an undeveloped area of the law, because prior to the current madness we did not subject former presidents to criminal prosecutions for their actions as President.  A ruling against immunity would likely subject all former presidents to prosecution on any number of grounds.

Lawfare was to be the silver bullet used to get Orange Man Bad.  Instead it has rallied support for Trump, and the cases against him are falling apart.  Roman strongman Sulla had the nickname of Felix.  That nickname could apply to Trump when it comes to his Keystone Kops foes.

Ron DeSantis found this out the hard way.

So how’s the schadenfreude now that Trump has been kicked off the primary ballot in OUR (ahem) great state of Illinois? I realize this decision may not stick for various reasons but still it makes me mad.

Elaine, as one who lived in Illinois for almost 25 years, and still live there in the family home in the warmer months, I, too, am angered and saddened by the descent of the state’s government into authoritarian insanity. My hope is that the Supreme Court will dispense with the ballot nonsense by ruling quickly (for them) on the Colorado case, which presumably will end the 14th Amendment nonsense once and for all, thereby vitiating the Illinois case and others like it well before the November election. The immunity argument might (and should) also wipe out the “keep him off the ballot” movement, but now won’t likely be decided before the October SCOTUS term. The timing of that ruling will be most interesting, indeed.

In the meantime, I can’t help wondering where the Illinois province of the GOP has been lately. They seem to be in hibernation.

I left Illinois six decades ago and never regretted. Family still there and they send me the weekly newspaper. Near as I can tell, the political IQ level has dropped about as much as the corruption has gone up. Probably a connection there.

Unless the Supreme Court undoes Trump’s citizenship, a write in vote ought to work

Mary, the order also states that no votes cast for Trump are to be counted. That would include write-ins. As far as I am now concerned, any State that bans Trump from the ballot has declared itself to have seceded from this Union. Then again, my opinion, much as my vote in Ca, means absolutely nothing.

What will these states do which have prohibited Trump on the ballot should Trump nevertheless win? Will they commit insurrection (of which they have accused Trump) and revolt?
