They went forth unto the mount of Olivet.’
Forth they went, but not to bed. ‘I rose at midnight,’ saith the prophet, ‘to give praise and thanks
to thee.’ Howbeit Christ did not so much as once lay him down on his bed. But at the leastwise, would
God we could truly say: ‘I remembered thee in my bed, good Lord.’
The Apostles slept when Christ needed them most. How many of us sadly repeat this error out of human weakness? Even worse, how many of us think we are active in the service of Christ while we are actually sound asleep?
