PopeWatch: He-Does-Not-Care

The only thing that moves him to act is bad PR.

And even then, he’ll do the minimum necessary to get the press off his back.

Part of it is that he doesn’t care, but the other part of it is that the religious orders just do not get it. They haven’t been punched in the face by lawsuits and governmental investigations to the same extent as dioceses have been.

Thus, their learning curve is a flatline.

And so the Church’s credibility with those it wishes to evangelize runs in parallel with the same flatline.

I agree with Dale Price— the only thing that might get Francis to do the right thing is bad PR. And as we’ve seen in Francis’ covering for the despicable Rupnik, sometimes even bad PR isn’t enough.

This is why Francis recently spoke about his gratitude for those in the media who were willing to be discreet about the scandals oozing out of this pontificate like raw sewage from a broken pipe.

It’s hard for me not to conclude that Francis couldn’t care less about what’s right and wrong, nor does he care about protecting the vulnerable from predators (that last of which, when you think about it, is the very opposite of the primary job description of a shepherd).

I think Francis ignores the sins of these abusers because if he were to pick at that thread, it might unravel the tapestry of corruption that is his pontificate. He’s surrounded himself with amoral, compromised men both because they’ve demonstrated that they don’t care about right and wrong and therefore can be relied on to do whatever they’re told; and having dirt on those prelates means they’re easy to control. But that also means that if one of his crew agrees to squeal to save his own skin, the whole house of cards could come down.

Which is why we so often see that when Francis is forced to part ways with a useful abuser such as the Rupnik creature, he hands him a golden parachute to make his departure as pleasant as possible.
I’d say the excellence of the golden parachute would be in direct proportion to both the man’s usefulness and his knowledge of dirt on the rest of Francis’ friends.

But we all know that if a prelate of a more traditional outlook were accused of such wrongdoing, Francis would fall over himself to make a public spectacle of his harsh “zero tolerance” treatment.

So no, Francis doesn’t give a damn about abuse victims if the abuser is useful to him.

Roger Vangheluwe is a disgusting human being. Solitary confinement is more fitting than confinement to a Holy Monastery.
