Germany’s problems resemble those of other occidental countries. Their problem isn’t ‘liberalism’, real or imitative, but cosmopolitanism, cultural demoralization, anti-natalism, and perverse welfare policy.
I kind of like the old Germans better. You have to blow them up periodically, but at least you know what to expect.
Unfortunately, we do know what to expect from Eurotrash elites. And that is more of the same. It looks like there might be some effective resistance forming in Scandinavia and in Italy. We can hope it spreads.
We in the US also work to support illegal immigrants.
My friend, a social worker, has many tales of people coming from out of state into ours, having been told that we give out all kinds of benefits. These folks are then shocked and angry that they are not eligible for much of it since they only just became residents, although if they hang around long enough, they likely get money from funds they have never paid into.
Germany has always had a streak of leftism running through it. The experience of Marx and Engels seem to have done little to stop the repeats of each new generation from contributing to the movements.
Germany has a strong streak of authoritarianism running through it, both Left and Right. It was noted at the time that ex-Communists often made fervent Stormtroopers.
Most western European countries have had a vigorous strand derived from Marxism in their political spectrum and a number have had communist parties with double-digit levels of support, among them Portugal, Italy, France, and Greece. The Communist movement was considerable under Weimar (around 12% of the electorate), not in post war West Germany.
From the time the volkisch strand appeared in the German electorate (ca. 1890) all the way down to about 1928, it generally commanded < 3% of the vote. It has been inconsequential in post-war Germany.
The West Germans set aside money for the eventual reunification with East Germany.
When in Germany in 2007 educated Germans told us they did not resent the East Germans. However, they did resent the new wave of immigrants who arrived as seniors and received retirement money though they had not contributed any money into the German government system…free loaders.
