Thought For The Day

Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Or Sidge, to insinuate that criticism of his pontificate amounts to supping with the devil.
Pontiff sounds like his comment is from experience.
The man’s insincerity is palpable. I agree with the tweeter ‘Mondo’ above: it seems Francis only talks like this when he thinks the rubes need another good gulling. Or, maybe he also delivers the speech to his friends inside the Casa Santa Marta so they can all have a good laugh. I can just imagine the smirk on the face of Jimmy Martin SJ.
When the late Pope Benedict XVI was still in office, the weekly Papal audiences in St. Peter’s square were routinely clocking in at over 50k in attendance. By the end of Francis’ first year, attendance had dropped to about 28k. By 2016, the weekly attendance had fallen to less than 10k, and at this point in this wretched pontificate I wouldn’t be surprised if the office responsible for collecting those figures was told not to release them anymore.
Or consider that astonishing photo of the most recent consistory in St. Peter’s square— the vast spaces reserved for spectators were deserted. With such a feeble crowd bothering to show, it looked like the entire ceremony could have been held on a tennis court.
As time passes, fewer and fewer of the faithful are taken in by Francis’ pandering.
A small blurb from Spiritdaily…
At Akita in Japan, on October 13, 1973, the Virgin allegedly told the deaf nun Sister Agnes Sasagawa, “The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres…churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.”
Judas had his role to play.
I suppose that everyone has a part in this saga that we live and die in.
