Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
FWIW, Wikipedia puts his birth at c.470 and his death in November 520, so his monastic life would be 5th to 6th century. There is a question as to whether he should be identified with St. Docuinus of the 8th century.
In any event, this Celtic saint is said to have struck his staff into the ground and a yew tree grew on that spot and is still there now. Whether that’s a literal tree or a metaphor for the life of prayer and good works that he inspired in the region remains to be seen.
