Requiescat in Pace: Suzanne Somers

Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone, and ta’en thy wages:
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust

Cymbeline, William Shakespeare

This news made me feel very old, and I am sure the same reaction will be elicited from others who were young in the seventies and she was starring in the sitcom Three’s Company.  A conservative in an industry dominated by liberals, Somers was a very pleasant person who seemed to sincerely wish to be funny and to entertain.  She never had delusions of grandeur and appeared to enjoy life.  May her blithe spirit be gently treated by God

Rest in Gods Eternal Peace, Suzanne. She had a beautiful smile.

Plenary indulgences heading her way.

As for thefeeling very old thing…
Yes.
Here’s one.
A family member of one of our residents bluntly asked me if I was a resident of the facility?
She was in her early twenties, and my name badge was in my truck.

I smiled and thanked God that at the very least she didn’t ask me while I was in the memory care unit. I was in the general assisted living area at the time of her inquiry.

My reply should of been; I don’t recall.

Amen. We still occasionally watch Three’s Company reruns, but only up to the point when she left the show. It was nowhere near as good without her.

Breast cancer isn’t particularly lethal compared to other sorts of cancer (it kills about 17% of those so diagnosed), but it has the disagreeable property of being able to resurface at any time. The probability of a recurrence in any given year declines some for the first 15 years or so after your diagnosis, after which it is a constant. You’re never over it. Oncologists will tell you that. RIP

The boys and our daughter in law were over last night when I mentioned this to my wife. We both sighed and remembered her show back in the day. Our boys have heard of it, but we’ve never watched it unlike other old shows (it does come off as rather dated, John Ritter fan that I am). We explained the premise, that the jokes were based on the idea that a man couldn’t live in an apartment with a woman outside of marriage. The kids were shocked that was still a thing in the late 70s. I told them it was. Even then, there was still some general pushback against what today is beyond concern. A lot has happened in a few decades.

A lot has happened in a few decades.

If the Holy Catholic Church ever started down the slippery slope of blessed Gay Marriage what will the decades to come allow?

Polygyny. Polygyny is the practice of one man marrying two or more women. Polygyny is much more common than polyandry.
Polyandry. Polyandry is when one woman marries two or more men. …
Polygynandry (Group Marriage) Polygynandry, or group marriage, is rarely practiced

Mark Goddard who played Major Don West on the 1960s TV show Lost in Space also passed away recently: on October 10th. He was Roman Catholic, as I recall. But like many today, he was twice divorced and thrice married. I hope God doesn’t hold that against him.

“She aborted her baby to keep her career in Hollywood. God have mercy on her.”

If she did, she seems to have kept it to herself and not used it as a vehicle for promoting abortion like others in Hollywood have.

I missed the comment about Suzanne Summers having had an abortion, so I did a little research and found that she did do that, back in the 60s. I then stopped my research. I really didn’t want to know any more. I wonder whatever happened to the phrase, “De mortuis nil nisi bonum”? It’s infurating that some Roman Catholics full of self-righteousness who never had to deal alcoholism, child abuse, mental illness, and all the rest can sit in judgment of those who did get divorced or who did have abortions.

I have talked about this before: my ex-wife had an abortion and I drove her to the clinic to get one. I was sick to my stomach after she had done the deed. That was the beginning of the end of our marriage which ended in divorce. I got depressed and simply couldn’t deal with things, so yes, I got married again. Here I am, a person even worse than Suzanne Summers. I know I deserve capital punishment and the only reason why I don’t get what I deserve is God’s grace. Therefore, I sincerely hope that after whatever time Ms. Summer must spend in Purgatory, if any, God lets her into Heaven so she can be with the baby whom she aborted.

Today I am estranged from my own two children, Adelina and Eric, who are now adults. That may sadly never change. But until you have been through the kind of craziness Ms. Summers had to endure, you have no idea.

Lord Jesus, please have mercy on Ms. Summers, and please remember my own children. Amen.

Ok, my rant is done.

Prayers for you LQC – that must be difficult for you to share that. There is never a point of no return when it comes to Gods mercy. His love is infinite. I hope you do become reconciled to your children one day if it is Gods will.

Suzanne Somers aborted the baby she fell pregnant with as a result of an extra-marital affair she had with the husband she eventually married and stayed married to for over 4 decades. This is what I have read. Nevertheless, she had suffered with re-occurring cancer, which started off as skin cancer and then developed breast cancer. She fought cancer privately for over 23 years. Who is to know whether the abortion contributed to her breast cancer, which is a medical risk (nobody talks about) if a woman undergoes an abortion. She has never come across as somebody who pushed the abortion gender, considering many women in Hollywood of her generation did.

Melanoma and breast cancer are distinct ailments. The latter is not an outgrowth of the former. It is possible, but quite unusual, for someone to survive metastatic breast cancer for a period of 20+ years. More likely, she was healthy for 20+ years and the cancer resurfaced and killed her. This is the usual course of events for a fatal case of breast cancer, though a gap of 20 years between the completion of the initial course of treatment and the disease reappearing is unusual. The typical gap would be five years or thereabouts.

Melanoma and breast cancer are distinct ailments. The latter is not an outgrowth of the former.

It doesn’t have to be.

“People who develop abnormally frequent cases of a skin cancer known as basal cell carcinoma appear to be at significantly increased risk for developing of other cancers, including blood, breast, colon and prostate cancers, according to a preliminary study by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine.”

“The increased susceptibility is likely caused by mutations in a panel of proteins responsible for repairing DNA damage, the researchers found.”

https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2018/08/common-skin-cancer-can-signal-increased-risk-of-other-cancers.html

Without knowing someone’s specific medical history (or being a cancer specialist) there much literature published on this: there is a greater risk of developing multiple cancers in a lifetime without it being a result of cancer spreading. And their occurrence is not random. My father had prostate cancer treated through radiation and still has slow growing non-Hodgkin lymphoma. I had Hodgkin Lymphoma and have not (touch wood) developed another cancer, although I was told during consultation that my treatment put me at risk of developing other cancers in my lifetime. My mother had breast cancer and (touch wood) has not developed other cancers, but was told during consultations that treatment could put her at risk of developing other cancers in her lifetime.

The links and risks are there without being a direct spread from an existing cancer. Your body is susceptible to developing abnormal cell growth, in various forms and parts of the body.
