A look from 1967 at life in the distant future of 1999. The technology imagined isn’t too far off the mark, although not quite there by 1999. What such predictions usually fail to capture is the impact of such technology in reshaping our mores. It is far easier for us to extrapolate technology into the future than to predict social change. Man largely remains a mystery to Man.

I found <i>Space 1999</i> engaging, though I never much cared for the 2d season cast changes. My father thought the screenwriters’ attempts at technobabble poorly done and a distraction. (He loved <i>Star Trek</i> and the movie <i>2001</i>).
