Suggested explanations:
He doesn’t want guards following him around. They follow his wife around; they weren’t there because she’s in Washington.
He for got to turn on the door alarms or internal motion sensors. He’s old. He drinks. He may also have had embarrassments derived from forgetting they were turned on when he went downstairs. Note, security cameras may deter a burglar and help identify him afterward. They don’t prevent him from entering (as security guards would) and they don’t set of a chain of signals which brings the police in short order (as an alarm system does).
Events like this tend to generate static due to bad reporting and due to officials giving out information on the qt when they’re not actually privy to the documentation in question and just heard it in the staff lounge. The FBI motion in federal court referred to the statements of a ‘witness 1’, a security guard employed by one of the neighbors, who said the person he saw knocking about outside the Pelosi residence was dressed in black and carrying a knapsack. dePape’s statements under caution did refer to a knapsack.
