Few politicians have dashed my hopes more than Boris Johnson. Given the largest Tory majority in generations, he was worse than useless. The book on Boris before he became Prime Minister was that he believed in nothing. Turns out that was incorrect. He mostly believed in the common wisdom of the chattering classes of the West and his personal hedonism. Do the post mortem please Nigel:

Give him credit for getting Brexit done. I wouldn’t fault him for mistaken decisions in re the Wuhan flu as it’s been trial-and-error for everyone. What you do fault leaders for is promulgating nonsense policies and doubling down on them. Not sure to what extent Britain did that. Nonsense policies would be (after the initial weeks) the school closings, lockdown advisories and mandates implicating (after the initial weeks) anyone under 45, pushing vaccines on persons under the age of 45, corruption of vaccine distribution by ‘diversity’ considerations, mask mandates, government spending pukes beyond temporary unemployment benefits and indemnities for certain sectors, monetizing public sector deficits…).
He won by a landslide in 2019. The left are antagonising and the right are being their convenient tools. Won’t be shocked if his replacement ends up being a Muslim. So much for Brexit.

Theresa May ministry was nowhere near the worst since Chamberlain’s. She herself may have been more unsuited to the position than any other, but no ministry since 1979 has made policy decisions in the economic realm as consistently poor as was the case between 1945 and 1979.
