Orthodox rabbis tell a story of a young rabbi in Russia who was traveling to his first assignment in a small town. He was riding in a cart. The driver stopped the cart and unhitched the horse to take the horse into a field of oats to graze. He asked the rabbi to stay on the road and warn him if someone was coming who could interrupt his theft of fodder for his horse. His horse had just begun to graze when he heard the rabbi yelling. He took the horse back out to the road and was amazed to see only the rabbi. Rabbi, I asked you to warn me if someone else could see me, and there is no one else here! The rabbi pointed to the sky and said, One sees.
Man may call evil, good and good, evil but God is not fooled by our prevarications, and His Justice, as well as His Mercy, awaits us all.
