A good amount of the brinksmanship with Russia so popular now, hysterically so, on the Left, has little to do with Ukraine and everything to do with our domestic politics. It is the second coming of the Russia Hoax, the congealed mendacity of the Clinton campaign to excuse Hilary blowing the 2016 election. This country was put through hell by the Deep State in their attempt to prove this lie, aided by the cowardice of Jeff Sessions who recused himself as Attorney General and allowed Justice Department and FBI minions, who detested Trump, to engage in this Leftist search after the Great White Russian Whale.
Thus people who have opposed every American military involvement during my lifetime, suddenly are born again hawks, calling for no fly zones and direct combat with the Russians. If it came to that, it should be done so only after sober analysis and a careful weighing of sympathy with the Ukrainians against fears of an ever ratcheting escalation which could end in a nuclear exchange costing untold millions of lives. Instead I think we stand a good chance of slipping into war due to folly on our part to match the folly of Putin. I have heard that politics ruins everything. A good case could be made for that maxim; it certainly has often ruined our foreign policy since the sixties. Time to break that cycle, but I am not optimistic.
Once you decide that the left’s primary goal is to break what works so that they can attain total power, all they do makes perfect sense.
