The last time I watched the Oscars was in 1978, the last of the 19 times Bob Hope hosted it.

Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
The last time I can recall seeing any of it was the year Paddy Cheyevsky chewed out Vanessa Redgrave. I think that might have been around the same time. He got an ovation for it.
We went to the cinema every other month during the period running from 1990 to 2004. I think we might have been once since. (Terry Teachout’s reviews were helpful. Do not believe I’ve read one since the print edition of Crisis flamed out). Not sure it’s a viable business model anymore for anything but action films which appeal to a Chinese youth audience.
I guess it’s easy to throw out the baby with the bath water. Lots of talented hard-working people work in Hollywood behind the scenes: cinematographers, costume designers, makeup, directors, script writers, editors, animators and the list goes on… It’s a tough industry to crack and do well in. It more than just the headline making egos such as Smith, who all usually fail to acknowledge that if it weren’t for these behind-the scenes-talents, then they would be out of work.
