Peter Bowles, British actor, has passed away from cancer at 85. Best known for his comedic roles I will always treasure his performances as Guthrie Featherstone in Rumpole of the Bailey:
He leaves behind his wife of sixty-one years, their three children and mourning fans. Not a bad legacy. May he now be preparing his next performance before our God who loves, I trust, to laugh.
Another series The Irish RM where Bowles plays the lead as newly retired British army Major Sinclair Yeates, the resident magistrate. The sly locals always seem to get the best of the major. Lots of fun. Great cast. Series based on novels by Somerville and Ross written and set in the 1800s. Also big fans of Gutherie Featherstone and his wife Marigold from Rumpole series.
and there’s “To the Manor born” with Penelope ???
Looking at Mr. Bowles’s imdb.com page, an impressive career over the years! Blog readers who are long time “Masterpiece Theatre” (now “Masterpiece”) fans will remember the titles you mention.
One of Peter Bowles’s final performances was the Duke of Wellington on 2 seasons of “Victoria” on PBS’s “Masterpiece.” He played the role of the aged Waterloo hero turned politician well on the show.
