PopeWatch: Alarm

Nordic Catholic bishops issued an open letter on Wednesday expressing alarm at the direction of the German “Synodal Way.”

In the March 9 letter, they cautioned against “capitulation to the Zeitgeist” and “impoverishment of the content of our faith,” reported CNA Deutsch, CNA’s German-language news partner.

While acknowledging the challenges facing the Catholic Church in Germany, they said that “the orientation, method, and content of the Synodal Path of the Church in Germany fill us with worry.”

Go here to read the rest.  The Pope has said nothing of course, because the German “Catholic” war on the Catholic Faith is precisely what he wants.

I guess half a loaf is better than none at all. But, “…fill us with worry.” Really? My Grandma was more manly than that. When I did something mischievious she would admonish me by saying: “There’s just no sense in that”. Then she would tell me I was a “good boy” and don’t do it again.

Good on them. And while politer than I am inclined to be to the Huns, such politeness is necessary. The fact the shot was fired at all–and from such a surprising sector–is heartening.

The Nordic Catholic Church is the Scandiavian affiliate of the Polish National Catholic Church. The old catholic congregations went in two directions. The Union of Utrecht is degenerate protestant, like much of the Anglican Communion. The Polish National Catholic Church is old school liturgical protestant. The Nordic affiliate was formed in the last generation by dissidents from among the Scandinavian Lutheran bodies.

I think there’s some confusion. I spot-checked the names of the signers, and they appear to be Roman Catholic bishops.
