I must give Tucker Carlson credit for sticking by his guns. He wants the West to ignore the Russian invasion of Ukraine and he musters every argument he can, good, bad and silly. His best argument is that the West underplays the risk of nuclear war. He is correct on that point, although I believe Carlson overstates it. Of course missing from his argument is any acknowledgement of what would happen if the West, somehow, did nothing in the face of Putin’s attempt to conquer Ukraine. Nato would unravel and the European states would each attempt to make the best deals that they could with the new hegemon of Europe. China would be emboldened for military adventures in the Pacific after this example of Western weakness. The West would be swamped with tens of millions of Ukrainian refugees. The list could go on at some length.
Carlson will not recognize the stark fact Putin’s Folly will be responded to in some way, and that doing nothing, his policy preference, is probably the worst choice. I have heard it said that the worst thing Hitler did was to demonstrate that there are worse things than War. That lesson is of course almost as old as Man, and Putin is giving us a refresher course.
I love Tucker, but not everyone is right all the time. The Left cites a few of his statements to write him off. He’s been too good for too long for that. However, his current analysis is shortsighted. Kind of like his views on faith. No decent person wants war with Russia. Likewise, no decent person wants to sit back while a tyrant destroys another country. The question is what is the proper response. I’ve watched a decent amount of commentary and no one, to my thinking, has the perfect plan, least of all our demented, corrupt president. What is crystal clear is that we need to open up domestic oil production. Only someone who is truly compromised would refuse to do that while still buying Russian oil.
The main point, as I see it, is that there is a narrative that is being pushed, much as with Covid, in which only “useful” info is provided, combined with half truths and outright falsehoods, all designed to manipulate public opinion, not inform it. Tucker Carlson seems to get it. He hasn’t defended Putin, nor the invasion. He seems attuned to the notion that this entirely preventable war, has been prompted by more than just Putin’s megalomania. Fair point, yes?

Not fair point, no.
Carlson has been disappointing: “Doing nothing” as the singular option.
I do think the administration is doing nothing to prepare Americans for the threat of being sucked in. But letting Putin rampage will have gruesome cascade effects.
Carlson’s fascination with European strongmen is his least attractive feature.

Yep. One thing to tweet “Go Ukraine!’. Another thing to fight a war that might be our bloodiest since World War II and would also have a chance of going nuclear. What I wouldn’t give for a Truman, Ike or Reagan right now being at the helm.
I’m sure the administration will go for war just to try and ensure they don’t get creamed in the midterms (and protect Hunter’s paycheck).
Come now, Dale. I’ve read enough of your blog to know that are no fan of the big global corporations. You’re going to claim now that you’re not even the least bit entertained by watching a great power punch back against them? If you’ve been getting stomped on and pushed around by King Kong, it’s entirely understandable that you’re going to have a little bile fascination in Godzilla showing up to hit back (even if you’re still going to be stomped on just the same).

“What I wouldn’t give for a Truman, Ike or Reagan right now being at the helm.“
Or Trump for that matter.
Or Trump for that matter.
Agreed. I do not think Putin would have invaded Ukraine if Trump were still President.
Wasn’t the Truman Administration stuffed with Communist moles?
