I think of that song ‘Charlie Brown’: Why’s everybody always picking on me? Pope Francis seems to cater to some of the worst characteristics of our modern age.

Perhaps the pope would not be so paranoid if he actually engaged in dialogue with those who hold a different viewpoint?

Sometimes having a Scripture passage taped to the mirror can help our mini identity crisis. To often we can think that we are God. The passage; Lord. Help me to decrease so that you may increase, is helpful.
It continues;
John 3:31
The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all.

The Pope and everyone taking a breath could truly benefit from remembering that the one who comes from heaven is above all.

If you must preach…preach Jesus Crucified dear brother Francis.
All else is feeding an ego that can’t be satisfied.

Somewhere St, John narrates how the chief priests and elders interrogated Jesus. One of them called Jesus “good.” Jesus quickly replied no one is good except God. Words to live by – even Popes.

One meditation on the First Joyful Mystery, The Annunciation, of The Most Holy Rosary of The Blessed Virgin Mary tells us to desire the love of humility and think of Mary’s humility when the Angel Gabriel greeted her with these words, “Hail Full Of Grace!”

Great advice, Phil and TShaw.
As for humility, from what I have seen, that virtue is in very short supply among members of the Society of Jesus, with notable exceptions such as Fathers Mitch Pacwa and Robert Spitzer.

A tedious–and invariably self-condemning–scold.

Matthew 7:2 is an inkblot to this guy. Rare is the time when his pointing finger does not curl back on himself.

It seems to me that the person who occupies the Chair of St. Peter is justifying self- and societial- destructive behavior, espeically in the areas of “family life.” Okay, may be not justifying, but certainly not calling people to give up those behaviors for their own good and the good of their families.
