A. Do we actually have anti-trust law anymore?

B. Can you imagine having a young adult child who wants to earn a living doing sh!tty things like suspending Shana Chappell’s Facebook and Instagram accounts? Being employed in repo work and bill collecting is a disagreeable way to make a living, but the society and economy depend on people willing and able to do this sort of work and the people you’re injuring commonly have only themselves to blame. What excuses to the twits employed at Facebook and Instagram and Twitter make to themselves and others?

@ Art-“A. Do we actually have anti-trust law anymore?”
Some time ago 48 state attorney’s general filed an anti-trust case with the FTC against Facebook. It was recently dismissed. There is a pending appeal. Let’s hope it succeeds and FB is brought to heel. Along with other social media, their behavior is contemptible.

Maybe I’m not understanding the situation. Usually, the govt is eager to proclaim a private enterprise a public utility, and oversee its operations. Since these social media companies are nothing, more or less, than communication companies, it is difficult for me to comprehend why govt hasn’t already seized the socialist opportunity to corral these enterprises into the fold.
Meanwhile, it is oft repeated that these are private companies with the right to suppress speech and banish whomever they please from their platforms, at the same time that the small-time business owner is ordered to violate their religious beliefs, unable to turn away any customer demand of their services.
Maybe I’m confused.

Can you imagine Zuckerberg doing the same to Cindy Sheehan? Of course not.

This adds to the list of reasons for my FB account to be dormant.

And as to antitrust action, let’s not forget how much cash Big Tech sluices into Congress and how influential its lobbyists at the regulatory level are. I’d love to see Big Tech smashed into flinders a la Standard Oil, but I wouldn’t bet on it happening in my lifetime.

Webster,

I think you descried the situation perfectly. By remaining a private entity on paper, the Tech Giants can argue that they have no obligations to the public. But since they have close ties to the government and lots of money, they can also dodge the regulations on business. The situation is good for the tech giants, but also great for the government, since the tech giants ultimately support whatever the deep state agenda is.

How many of you commenting still have Facebook and Instagram accounts? The way to protest is by boycotting these agencies of the devil.

Wow! Our ‘president’ turned his back on the mother of a fallen Marine, threw up his hands, and walked away. That doesn’t sound very presidential. Censoring this is why I inactivated my Facebook account for about a year, came back briefly, then finally permanently deleted it. I was repeatedly censored, and anonymous coworkers were ‘reporting’ my Facebook activity to HR where I work, along with that of like-minded coworkers. The left would kill us if they could get away with it. This is from their own words at various times and in various places. For now, they must be happy with deleting our speech from the internet.

You can survive it for a month. Then, two . . .

Boycott all of them and their advertisers: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Instagram, Microsoft, Twitter, , . .

Also, during the China virus hysterics and lockouts [which did not work], the tech lords and their deep state employees managed to kill off local newspapers and now local businesses only advertise on the net. Boycott them, too.

At the very least even if he didn’t feel he deserved everything Mrs. Chappell was telling him he should have been man enough to take it in silence and allow her to her rage in her grief and if he truly believed he knew how she felt he would never have turned his back and walk away. A real man, a real leader would have waited until she was done and allowed her to turn her back on him and walk away. IG and FB are a couple of peons who cannot rise above the contents of a cesspool.

When FB, etc first came onto the scene I recall saying to my wife. It’s a perfect tool for the narcissistic age we live in. It’s all about themselves. Why in the world would I care about every mundane activity that others are doing? To think people became billionaires with this nonsense. It produces nothing. I really believe it’s a tool of the diabolic. Never had an account and never will. I think people would be wise to cancel their accounts and stop feeding the evil empire. Read the Bible instead. More interesting and better stories then you’ll ever read on social media.

Why in the world would I care about every mundane activity that others are doing?

I care what my cousins are doing now and again, and they post some of it on Facebook. One’s a widow, so a family photo taken about 35 years ago is posted on her husband’s birthday (15 August). Opinion on the COVID vaccine posted 7 August, profile picture replaced 28 July, passed on remarks of a friend (28 July), back yard photo with some wildlife (17 July), birthday tribute to her daughter (4 July), with old baby picture; pictures of an outing with grandchildren (26 June), Father’s Day tribute to her late husband and to her father (20 June). No remarks lasting longer than a few sentences and none contentious. With one exception, she’s the most voluble of my relatives. I don’t get to see her more than once every eight years or so and one of her children I haven’t spoken to since 1990, so I like to see pictures of her with her children. Sorry you think that’s ‘diabolic’.

A screen capture of Shana Chappell’s post that offended FB & its affiliate Instagram is here:

https://thepostmillennial.com/mother-of-slain-marine-suspended-critical-biden

Just scroll down the page. I saved the screen capture to my hard drive and to the storage on my cell phone. I then posted it on FB with my usual politically incorrect sentiments, and ensured that the soy-boy effeminate snowflake technocrats would see it by using @Facebook and @Facebook App in the post. Finally, I cross-posted it on Wimkin, MeWe and Gab. I will follow with the worst of the cesspools, Twitter, later, and ensure it gets flagged to @Joe Biden and @POTUS.

Shove the truth in front of the faces of these diabolical emasculated perverts. Make them know that they are as evil as the Musloid terrorists, deserving of the same punishment. Use their godless tools against them. Make them fear the truth. Make them know that if they die tonight without having repented (God forbid!), then they will burn forever and ever. I shall do what little I can to shove this so far up their nether regions that the truth will eventually come spewing out their foul and filthy mouths.

So, if I’m reading all this correctly, FB is an evil antitrust violator who we should be happy to promote because it’s easier than writing a letter, or even making a phone call?

AD. Pick up a phone and call your family and friends. Send a card or a letter. This kind of communication works fine. FB and others proactively censor/cancel conservatives and certainly were involved in stealing the 2020 election. To heck with FB et al.

30 August 2021: “Conservatives must finally recognize something that’s very depressing and very important: the conservative intellectual movement in America didn’t just fail. It aided and abetted the Left for money. The Left bought off the Right’s leading conservative intellectuals. And its think tanks. And its ‘flagship’ magazines. This is not hyperbole or conjecture. I’ve got the receipts.” Emerald Robinson, “How The National Review Sold Its Soul to Google” Posted at Instapundit.

For once, I agree whole-heartedly with Art Deco.

Y’all hissy-fitting about him not leaving facebook are acting like bullies, and worse you’re acting like dishonest bullies. Those whose goal is so weak it cannot be supported without lies and emotional abuse.

If you cannot accurately recognize the benefits of facebook, you will never be able to offer a reasonable alternative– and your bad behavior, including that blatant dishonesty about the benefits, will taint the cause that you claim is just.

Worse, you make dang sure that anybody who did do what you claim to want– leave facebook– and did pay the price, is informed by their supposed allies that any cost they paid? Was nothing. Because they could write a letter, or call. A letter that isn’t responded to, and calls that if they go through– and if the target can even hear– are frustrating and short, because there is not time and even small families have more than a handful of people.

Besides it being attack on those who did do what you claim to want, it also ignores why they went after Facebook and similar routes for control. It denies that connection of being able to just drop a quick note when dropping by someone’s house isn’t an option, when you won’t pass them in the grocery store, when they’re in the middle of the Indian Ocean quite literally on the far side of the world.

They want Facebook, and similar social media, because they have to control the social interactions in order for their lies to survive. They saw what happened when my cousins were exposed to people who were actually NOT just like themselves– and not vulnerable to the same emotional manipulation, and able to answer questions coherently. Even after being locked inside for NEARLY A YEAR, they had to publicly fraud to keep states that have been absolutely safe for my entire life. Colorado is making it clear that they only went Biden by fraud.

You don’t fight that by acting like the connections don’t matter, like sacrificing ease of communication for your principles is a non-cost, and you definitely don’t do it by being openly dishonest in “rephrasing” what someone said when they declined to go along with your demands.

Amen, Phil. And thanks to you and others for repeatedly reminding us of the things that ultimately matter. As I grow ever closer to that portal to eternity, I find myself thinking often about how hard it is to put aside the things of this world, as our Lord and His Saints so often exhort us to do.

I enjoy a visit to FB for reasons of far-flung niece, cousins and distant relatives, hs classmates, church events, and a couple of community forums (replacing city newspapers and editorials). There are pictures of birthdays, anniversaries, and events! Understanding that agenda is a given, the social aspect serves to balance the scale in this distanced world.

“… you’re acting like dishonest bullies”

Foxfire,
I don’t think anyone here cares if Art is on Facebook or not, and I’m certain no one here is insisting he leave that platform. Saying so is dishonest on your part (but an easier argument to make, eh?).
Speaking for myself, I just wanted to point out that the reasons he gave for staying (in his typically condescending response to Paul) weren’t terribly valid. I haven’t been on Facebook for years, yet somehow I have have managed to remain in contact with family and friends … because I have a telephone and also have access to a post office.

I also found it humorous that Art’s rebuttal Of Paul valid observation that Facebook is Narcissist fodder was a 500 word self-aggrandizing essay about how much joy he receives in communicating with his family. Rarely do we get to see a premise so quickly demonstrated in its rebuttal.

CAG-
Thank you for demonstrating such dishonesty right up front, given the comments you had to cover to write it; it does prevent wasted time in trying to engage in good faith, even if as manipulation attempts go it is maybe a 3 on a scale of ten.
