Normally PopeWatch posts on Saturday are given over to light-hearted exercises in fiction. Not today. Today we have an Open Thread. PopeWatch is especially interested in Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals who have announced that the Traditional Mass will continue in their jurisdictions.

Well, the Tridentine Rite was recently restored to (perhaps I should say is allowed in) the Saginaw Diocese in Michigan. They are supposed to have Mass tomorrow, and a post on SLMA website says that it will proceed as planned. Since the local group does not have it’s own parish, but is given space at odd times by a local parish, I assume the group will be allowed to proceed as normal.
.
If they continue on, and I hope this is permitted, then I should like to attend this Fall.
I wonder how many post Vat II Catholics would now want to attend at least one traditional Latin Mass just because it is so targeted by Rome?
Father Z is reporting on various pronouncements from local ordinaries preserving the status quo regarding the TLM. As of this morning he has provided screen shots or links to statements of Abp. Vigneron, Detroit, Abp. Cordileone, San Francisco, Abp. Aymond, New Orleans, Bp. Hying, Madison, Abp. Hebda, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and of a TLM parish in El Paso reporting their bishop, Mark Seitz, has told them to keep on keeping on for now, at least.

Oh thank God– than you for the update on El Paso, Frank.
The TLM parish in El Paso is in down town, it’s gorgeous, and it’s where they put all the young hearts-afire guys. Standard issue “historic church now in a Really Bad Area” but there’s only-used-during-weekdays-by-the-builders parking inside of a block, and they’re really good about making sure folks don’t wander around into known bad areas without knowing what they’re doing.
One thing I did not expect was some signs that a critical mass of American bishops have grown so weary of this Pope that they are willing to take initiatives that one might expect will irritate him. I cannot imagine with what sort of frenzy the collection of greasy crooks in Rome will respond.
Here in the archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas I haven’t yet seen anything from the archbishop. However, as far as I’m aware the only TLMs are in FSSP parishes, so I probably wouldn’t expect something widely broadcast since at present it doesn’t immediately affect them as much as regular parishes. The FSSP parish my wife and I attend was recently granted personal parish status last September, so we’ll see what happens. The priests at our parish generally send out a weekend email late Saturday afternoon, so maybe they’ll provide some info.
Given that a massive SSPX church is being built within the driving distance that many at my parish already undertake, my guess is that the archbishop won’t be eager to not retain the FSSP. And to be fair, he’s been pretty supportive of the FSSP at least. I don’t know his thoughts on the TLM as a whole, but in his actions he’s invited the FSSP in and given our parish its personal parish status, so we can be grateful for that. We need to double our prayers for them; they’ve been put in a tough position. The MP seems to make it really easy to be harsh and really difficult to be accommodating.
You’re welcome, Foxfier. Glad to help. That sounds like a great parish.
And on the home front, the Bishop of Rockford was already out of step with Summorum Pontificum, having announced four years ago that priests must have his permission to celebrate the TLM or—get this—to celebrate the Ordinary Form Mass ad orientem. He gave essentially the same excuse for this (“unity”) as PF has for his hatchet job, and as their mutual pal Cd. Cupich did when, as Bishop of Rapid City, SD, he ordered the only TLM parish church in the diocese locked during the Sacred Triduum, forcing its parishioners to go to Novus Ordo liturgies.
Greater Sydney is in hard lockdown. The only Parish I know who is a TLM Parish Maternal Heart Parish in Inner city Lewisham. I went to their website to check and it states all Masses will be live-streamed. No indication otherwise. There hasn’t been any statement by Archbishop Anthony fisher. My gut is he will allow it. He managed to have the Good Friday and Easter Sunday Mass live-streamed on a major television network last year in lockdown. Just unheard of.
@Don L: I’m from the Post Vat II generation by decades. Ive attended many many Maronite Mass in my life. But I’ve never attended a TLM mass. I don’t know much on TLM. I would like attend TLM now though, if they continue after lockdown I’ll take my family.
I read commentary that if they can’t go to TLM they won’t go to church. They will pray Rosary at home. I hope people don’t react like this. I hope these people won’t let the Pope a clearly an ego driven and flawed human put any obstacle in them receiving the Eucharist and hearing the liturgy.
I’ve also read commentary that this is the Popes first step in eventually changing the NO to make it Ecumenical, and destroying our beautiful Mass. I hope not…
Update on the diocese of Kansas City in Kansas: This morning one of our priests read a message from Archbishop Naumann which confirmed that the FSSP will remain in both locations. There weren’t any diocesan TLM’s as far as I’m aware, so I don’t know what would have happened in that situation.
