Here is a case where experience found an unwilling student unable to learn reality’s lessons.
Apparently, the ten or eleven guns (who’s counting) and 1,000+ bullets living in my basement are broken. None has jumped out of its case and robbed a bishop.
Quick look on the interwebs shows me that yes, last year Oakland defunded its police department, crime spiked (naturally), and so last month the city threw $10 million to the police budget and now they’re complaining because their crime stats haven’t returned to normal overnight…
Cannot help but notice that personal income per capita in Oakland, California is 22% higher than that in Livingston County, Illinois. Cannot help but notice that murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault are more common in Oakland, California as well (by factors of 7.4, 1.83, 37.0, and 4.4 respectively). So, I gather the source of this is that people in Oakland are more affluent and can afford the guns which allow them to kill, rape, rob, and beat each other with greater frequency.
I should say were more common during the period running from 2013-18, before the affluent residents of Oakland got rid of their killjoys-in-blue. Such fun.
