Thought For the Day

Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Is not one of the inevitable results of loss of faith in God the exact kind of self-hatred and envy that now seem to drive popular culture?
@Frank, China & North Korea have no god but the government and yet they have plenty of national pride. As did the pagans before them.
And there are plenty of Christians signing onto this madness.

Nate, I suppose I’m thinking about a putatively free society. The cultures of those Communist countries you mentioned are what we will look like down the road, I suppose. But good point in any case.
As for today’s “Christians” signing on to this madness, I’d wager that the “god” they worship bears little resemblance to the real Triune God of Tradition and Scripture. Of course, that’s true of a good portion of the Catholic hierarchy these days, too.
Evidently, school children ritualistically burn the American flag and chant ‘Death to America’ in Tehran, Baghdad, Beirut, Kabul, Ramallah, and America.
Wake up, America!
The elites hate you and all that you hold dear.
They are brainwashing your children. And, you are paying for it. .
Frank and Nate,
I think I found a possible explanation for your ‘issues.’ Too many so-called Catholics and Christians believe The Christ was very, very wrong in not taking more political action, stir and bustle in the worldly world. The arrogance is noteworthy.
“Evidently, school children ritualistically burn the American flag and chant ‘Death to America’ in Tehran, Baghdad, Beirut, Kabul, Ramallah, and America.”
Beirut? Really? Show me evidence of this…
Parents need to play a big role in their children’s lives and talk about these things. There is no such thing as indoctrination in a child unless a parent allows it.
does a basic search, notes that most of the first page of results are from the last year, although some phrase it as “outside of the US embassy in Lebanon.”
Parents– all people, honestly– often forget that others do not know all that they know; my mother was one of the more heavily involved (read: the office ran in terror because she would get to the bottom of this) parents and is still shocked at some of the things she assumed we would of course tell her about, if it was happening.
Problem being, kids don’t know what they don’t know. It was treated as normal in class, so why would we mention it? What sane person would go “Oh, I must ask my kids if they are being taught insane things instead of basic math?”
That’s one of the reasons we home school.
I have conversations with my kids all the time about everything. We had one about the whole “white people” rubbish – and my 13 year old rolled her eyes. Kids aren’t easily fooled. Plus they aren’t just getting it from the classroom, I find they get it more from social media. Leave them to the world and the world will raise them.
I couldn’t homeschool I would suck at it.
“Outside of the US embassy in Lebanon” post that link please.

Could see the story on the first link as it went to the main page.
The last 2 links was last year and it was anti-Trump protest. And it was Hezbollah and their supporters. That’s not representative of the lebanese people who are anti-Hezbollah. Hezbollah as you know is financed by Iran. We had every hope that Trump would stay in power to fire one glorious missile into the lap of Hassan Nesrallah- well he was on track that way.
No Lebanese school children are burning Lebanese flags. Hezbollah and Palestinian refugees are. Doesn’t mean the nation or its people condone this.
*couldnt
Crosses arms
Ah, yes, Trump has clearly changed his name to “America.”
Those of us with a slightly sounder connection to history are aware that they have been chanting “death to America” and burning our flag in Lebanon since before I was born, and I’m over median age for the US.
If you meant “is there a news report from the last two weeks about people chanting death to America in Lebanon,” you should have asked for that. I could have told you it’s so bog standard that it’s not even worth reporting.
Oh man Foxfier. Ok whatever you say.
It becomes clear why your algorithms are trained to not find something blindingly obvious, and why your response to being handed multiple examples of what you asked for was to dismiss them on an unrelated qualification….
No. You are dishonest in your arguments. And I don’t want to be at the other end of another one of your online meltdowns.
You are dishonest in your arguments
Says she who shifts them when they are answered.
I have, routinely, met your demands for evidence.
You have, routinely, been upset by that fact.
You have been further upset by assertions, supported by evidence, that do not align with your beliefs.
That is not a “melt down”.
That is a reality check failure, on your part.
You haven’t given evidence of Lebanese citizens, ordinary citizens burning US flags. You sent me articles of Hezbollah burning US flag without knowing the context behind it. Can’t you tell the difference before you make seeping statements?
Terrorist organisations within that nation have displayed anti-american sentiment. The Christians make up half of the nation and don’t go around participating in the burning of American flags or teaching American hatred within schools or outside of American Embassy’s. The American University of Beirut is one of the best Universities in the city.
However, I can’t for certain tell you this is true of another Arab nation, because I don’t know.
My father born in 1946 did not go around burning American flags when he lived in Beirut nor did his father nor his fathers father. The average Lebanese dont do this, especially christians.
There are pro-Palestinian protests in Australia. Burning Israeli flags.Does not mean the Australian government and its people condone these or hate Israel.
So don’t say “ they have been chanting “death to America” and burning our flag in Lebanon since before I was born”. To imply that the nation and its citizens are anti-American. They are not.
That’s being dishonest.
And if you don’t believe me, I’m
sure there are Lebanese Americans living in your neighbourhood you can ask- “Are you anti-american?” “Does your country burn our flag and wish death on us”.
I don’t think T Shaw was speaking literally, only saying that the kind of anti-Americanism you see in the US looks similar to the anti-Americanism often on display in the Middle East. It was a bit of rhetoric.
@Pinky- yes maybe so. It’s a complicated region, and I don’t its accurate or fair to paint every nation with the same broad stroke. The predominance of Islam in its extreme form doesn’t help either. And the media peddle this. And we lap it up.
Thanks, Pinky.
Sorry my thingy caused all this “pomp and circumstances.”
I got no problem with poor, benighted heathens burning American flags.
I have a problem with benighted, unionized US public schools and teachers indoctrinating American children into hate-filled, garbage people.
Whew! It took a bit of effort to omit all the expletives running through my alleged mind.
I don’t like it when EITHER spoiled brat offspring of liberal white elitists burn the American flag here at home and other enable racist organizations like BLM and Antifa in their terrorism, OR when foreigners in countries to which we gave millions if not billions of dollars in handouts do the same, and in many cases, we have tried by both blood and treasure to free their sorry behinds from the very violence and terrorism that they elected and supported in the first place. And outside of the King and Queen of Jordan, and a few select others, I don’t have sympathy for the Muslims who prefer to follow the pedophile prophet and live in squalor while their leaders wreak havoc everywhere else in the world.
But I would like to see all the works of the Democratic Party burned down to the ground and the Kaaba pulverized into dust. I am not as tolerant, inclusive and non-divisive as T. Shaw! Ha! Ha! I couldn’t resist!

Courtesy Zhou Bai-den’s Secretary of State.
The suburban Margaret Wades who insisted the previous president was ‘divisive’ gave you this.
“And outside of the King and Queen of Jordan, and a few select others, I don’t have sympathy for the Muslims who prefer to follow the pedophile prophet and live in squalor while their leaders wreak havoc everywhere else in the world.” I tend to agree with you on that.
On Pentecost weekend a visiting priest from Cross Catholic subbed for the missions resident priest. Turns out he was of the Byzantine Maronite rite and a seminary professor. From Ohio he attended seminaries in in his state and Rome. Over breakfast we discussed the turmoil in Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. He said that Christians in Lebanon are now about 30% . The National Pact of 1943 requires a Maronite Christian as President, a Sunni Muslim as Prime Minister and a Shia Muslim as the Speaker of Parliment. It’s the priest’s belief that the Maronite Patriarch, working quietly, will bring about peace in Lebanon. Major problem is other counties financing the violence. Iran is a big one in that.
Next a George Floyd Day with BLM flags a flying will be substituted for Memorial Day.
I say it’s higher than 30% Christian population. Reason being many professionals work in neighbouring Arab nations (Saudi Arabia, UAE), and they come and go into the country. You also have those ex-pats who maintain dual citizenships and spend summers in Lebanon, where they can and own generational land and homes. Many of these Christian ex-pats still send money to support struggling family members. The other reason, Lebanese citizenship is transmitted through the father. Even if the mother is of a different nationality, proving your father is Lebanese entities you to citizenship. And after the late Patriarch Sfeir (head of Maronite Church between 1986-2010), there hasn’t been a leader who has fought for the Christians as much as him. In fact he refused young Maronite men to leave the country, even though there was a shortage of work. In the midst of the war he stood up politically where it counted for the Maronites. These days the Maronite Patriarch is…meh. The Seminary Professor is less cynical than most- God bless him. The current Maronite Patriarch just upgraded his fancy gold cross, and this whilst inflation in Lebanon is at a whopping 148%.
The Christians in the ME need prayers.
Thanks, Ezebelle, I appreciate your input. . Census aren’t that accurate when there’s something in it for the administration that is doing the accounting. Perhaps the 30% is meant to be an argument for undoing The National Pact?
Yes, the priest mentioned is not cynical, however he is disheartened about the current US administration. His seminary is conservative. Interestingly although a Marionite, he in not of Arab extraction; he is a minority.
My dentist who is of Lebanese extraction, grew up in Libya; was educated in Italy. Not sure when the arrived in the US though he and his parents are US citizens.
Thanks Cam, you seem to get it. Agree, they are probably using the numbers to change the National Pact. They won’t mention that majority of the North of the country is made of entire Christian villages. Even if the children have moved abroad to work, the land stays in the family. I know of a family in Sydney building a new Church in their village. Many new Churches popping up in the North.
Lots of minorities have become Lebanese over the centuries. There are many Armenians who have become naturalised Lebanese who settled in Lebanon during the genocide. They are Orthodox and a wonderful community in Lebanon. Dad even told me they had Jewish neighbours in their Beirut in the 1950’s! Lots who fled to Africa decades ago and made their wealth there. If you believe the tabloids, Trumps youngest daughter, Tiffany is engaged to a Lebanese American whose family is one of those Lebanese families who made their wealth in Africa. He is a Christian ofcourse! Trump was good for the region. Very good. Good for his country and good for the International stage. America doesn’t deserve the current Administration. But just my opinion.
