Saint of the Day Quote: Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat
Donald R. McClarey
We don’t live with angels; we have to put up with human nature and forgive it.
Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
The saints almost always speak common sense Bob, which in our time is buried under an avalanche of common nonsense! However they speak to all times. Better days will come.
Several of the girls from my H S. went on to attend Barat College later University staffed by the Madames of the Sacred Heart. Mother Barat survived the French Revolution and founded many girls schools around the world. Unfortunately Barat University closed its doors in 2004. The order still has many schools in the US though the emphasis is on k to 12.
The beloved children’s series Madeline seems to be patterned after an exclusive Madames of the Sacred Heart girls boarding school in Paris. The headmistress’ dress looks much like that of the Saint’s and her nuns’ habits and is addressed not as Sister but as Miss.
I needed to hear those words today from my elder sister in the faith. Thanks Don!

Please check spelling of St’s name.
Changed, although I have seen it both ways.
