Combat: Which Member of the Squad Are You?

Some kind soul has posted all the episodes of Combat on YouTube and I have begun re-watching them with my bride.  It was a good show back in the Sixties, now it seems like Shakespeare compared to the drek on television now.  It received raves at the time from World War II vets who loved its gritty look at an infantry squad battling their way across France in 1944, ordinary men doing a tough, dirty and oh so necessary job.  It was so realistic that apparently the Marines at the battle of Hue in 1968, not being trained in urban combat, fell back, with great success, on tactics used in Combat episodes for street fighting.

Go here to take a quiz on which member of the squad you would be.  I was Sergeant Saunders, which surprised me as I have never sold shoes in my life!

My Bride came out as Lieutenant Hanley so I guess I will ma’am her a lot today!

In light of current productions, the 60’s TV was fun – hearing my father laugh – my mother cry – what channel to watch – missing good shows on other channels – not enough time to see – saving certain hours for enjoyment – one tv home with knobs to turn. I missed that series, and tested as an 84% Sgt.

I’m Sergeant Saunders 78%
You are dedicated, determined, and filled with quiet strength. Your heart is tender and compassionate, but only special circumstances can make you reveal your softer side. Fiercely loyal, you will do anything to protect the people you love.
I also scored Caje at 76%
Alas I no longer remember any of the characters from the show other than the Sargeant. I do remember the tactics from the show, as we often used them as kids as we battled the Germans and Japanese in southwest Ohio in the early 70s.

Thanks for this, Combat was one of my boyhood favorites. One of the best TV show themes, as well. I will be checking out those YouTube episodes!

I saw it on reruns in the 70s. When most of my classmates were obsessed with watching Charlie’s Angels, I watched Combat religiously. And I was a huge fan of Sgt. Saunders.
