I’m glad you’re able to now post at TAC regularly, Donald, and that the demonic gremlins infecting this blog site have been returned to the Chinese Communist Party. What a refreshing air of common sense compared to the outrageousness of Twitter / X where (as you know) I cannot contain myself. As for the line between politicians and clerics, I thought that clerics are a subset of the class called politicians. Some can be good, but most are despicably corrupt and self-centered.
Not too many politicians have been an enemy to their office.
It wasn’t too far into Francis’ pontificate before I stopped listening to what Popes were saying, and that prohibition remains. It is wise, however, to pay attention to what they do, and don’t do. ¡Lio! has done nothing to correct the damage done by his predecessor, and what he has done isn’t encouraging. His appointments are abysmal and the Vatican purse has been taken away from those with oversite and handed back to Judas. Pray for the Pope every day! You never know, today might be the day a backbone develops!
We *do* tie ourselves in knots when politicians attack our foundational principles and diminish or eliminate essential services.
It’s just that, currently, the clergy attack foundational principles and reduce essential services more than politicians. 💔

… And the foundational principles some clerics are attacking are divinely revealed doctrines of the faith … a bit more consequential than much of what our politicians are debating.

In addition, I much prefer a cleric who is a hypocrite over one that is a heretic.
That is why I would prefer a priest who has a mistress to one that publicly denies the Sixth Commandment.
There is a great difference between failing to follow the Truth and failing to acknowledge the Truth.
My then 5th grade son when asked what he wanted to do when he grew up, said, “I want to be a bishop or actor”. My response was, ” Sometimes they are the same”.
Speaking of Pope Bob’s bad decisions, I asked my priest what he thought of the excommunication of the FSSPX order and those who attend their Masses. Father said FSSPX are pre Vatican 2. Their tradition goes back centuries to the early church. They are not heretics. Many are flocking to their churches. The Vatican should have left them alone.

The function of a bishop is to ‘teach, sanctify, and govern’. What they say is 1/3 of the job and what they say ought to be precise and deliberate.

There’s an enormous amount of media chatter mixed in which are the utterances of politicians. I pay attention to very little of it. I’ll pay attention if they say something egregious which indicates a malicious or perverse intention. “Abolish the police” is an egregious remark. “Joy Behar is a lying wench” is an utterance which may cause incremental degradation to public discourse, but is merely a vulgar personal opinion.
