Oppression isn’t limited to political structures.
“consecrated cretins… ” can be such a stumbling block and there certainly are a lot of them today, even a majority of bishops… however if one steps back and realizes that the Church has suffered from such “consecrated cretins.. ” most of Her Life and She still Stands, you can realize that It’s a Miracle.
Let’s see: The Trump Administration is defending the Jews in Israel against Iran, and his son-in-law is a Jew and his grandchildren are half-Jews, yet Archbishop Wester compares the Administration to Hitler’s Third Reich. Oh, I guarantee you that Francis the Better Dressed – er, I mean Leo XIV – agrees completely with Wester. You can take the boy out of Chicago politics and dump him in Peru, and what you’ll get is Chicago politics mixed with Latino Liberation Theology. A nicer, kinder, gentler, and smarter Francis, but a Francis nonetheless.
I’m so sick of these Drama Queen Bishops™ acting like they are part of some courageous opposition, taking their lives in their hands speaking out. The reality is that they are a part of the privileged elite who get the full support of the mainstream media. Play acting is all they’re doing, caring more for their reputation than for the people entrusted to their care.
These are the same bishops who claim that the reason they don’t deny Communion to notorious pro-abortion Democrats is because they mustn’t “politicize the Eucharist”.
Remember several years ago, when Archbishop Cordeleone, Nancy Pelosi’s Ordinary, broke ranks and announced she would be denied Communion? Instead of supporting +Cordeleone, his brother bishops either kept embarrassed silence or tut-tutted about how he was allowing himself to become entangled in politics.
I think it’s understandable that we laity get the impression that many of our bishops prefer to appear apolitical when Democrats are concerned, but with Republicans suddenly they “must speak truth to power” and congratulate themselves for their brave, prophetic voices…
If you have to lie to try and get people to think the way you want them to think, you’re playing for the devil’s team.
“Paved with the skulls of bishops”…
Santa Fe has been a disgrace since the last century, alas. And the politics of my natal state aren’t much better.
A former parishioner and coworker, Wester was not an idiot when I knew him in the 1980s. Sorry to see this sad shark-jumping.
I look forward to this bunch of mental midgets threaten excommunication for those who go to a chapel of the FSSPX. Try it with that new cathedral they just built in Kansas. Go ahead, USCCB.
I fear a lot of things. I fear having my job eliminated at my age of 62.
I was scared as hell when a tractor trailer hit me while I was driving on Interstate 70 west of Washington, Pennsylvania Friday afternoon. My car is likely totaled. The truck driver could have run me over or pushed me down into a ravine. He pulled over a quarter mile or farther up the road, got out, looked at his truck, got back in and took off.
Chicago Leo? Nah. He ain’t God.
@Penguins Fan: Unbelievable. Yet now quite believable.
We are all looking in our rear view mirrors these days in the northern states when we drive the US-Canadian routes, wondering when the next [likely illegal illiterate] will crash into us.
One always has the feeling the US bishops, now another caretaker with a mediocre record, in this case Wester, are looking for back slaps and attaboys from each other in their predictable ever Left drifting pronouncements.
