Don’t Cry for Me Venezuela

Go here to read the story.  You can bet the ruling mullahs in Iran are sweating bullets as they are reading about this.

Reading through the timeline of the Telegraph article was fascinating, and two things jumped out at me.

The first was that at least two European spokesmen (and I think a Venezuelan spokesman) defaulted to “International Law” and the principles of the “UN Charter,” which, to my mind, shows just how impotent such concepts actually are in the real world. One can say that the principles of either must be “respected,” but unless there is something that can or will enforce that “must,” it has no real meaning.

The second was this section header: “US Senate Armed Services Committee ‘not notified’ of Venezuela strikes”
Which probably largely explains how this sudden and unexpected surprise attack was able to be done so clandestinely.

Milei celebrates Maduro capture

Javier Milei, the Argentinian president, has celebrated a US operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.

Mr Milei reposted a news story about the capture on X, captioning it: “FREEDOM ADVANCES! LONG LIVE FREEDOM, DAMN IT!”

A close Trump ally, Mr Milei said at the end of December that Argentina “welcomes the pressure from the United States and Donald Trump to free the Venezuelan people.”

“The time for a timid approach on this matter has run out,” he added

Exactly. The timid approach allowed millions of unvetted illegal immigrants to cross our boarders.
That timidity, a hallmark of the Biden era, encouraged lawlessness and Maduro benefited from it for years.

Not so today.

This action reminds me of Firefox is a 1977 Cold War thriller novel by Craig Thomas, where the characters debated what to do over the superior MIG fighter and arrived at a determined “we steal it.”

Here it was.. “we arrest him.”

So American & out-of-the-box.

Predictably, the President of the country in which the Cristeros War was waged a century ago decried the attacked and arrest of narco-leader Nicolas Manduro as destabilizing. Indeed, it destablizes her godless grip on power. And yes, may the mad Mullahs in Iran sit up and take note. This is no worthless, useless Jimmy Carter in the Oval Office.

As it was noted in the link….
Russia and China are paying attention.

Trump walks the walk.
Today’s actions saved lives, imo.

Despite the wailing and the clutching of pearls throughout the over sensitive part of the world, a good deal of notice has been taken that it is simply not a good idea to give offense to someone with a bigger stick. See Roosevelt, T. on the subject of the use of sticks.

Sheinbaum is correct, this move is destabilizing. China, Russia and Iran, who all have interests in Venezuela, will make sure of that. China was in Venezuela yesterday offering increased support.

Trump says Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado, whom he acknowledges is the democratically elected President of Venezuela, doesn’t have the support necessary to lead the nation. He can’t possibly mean support of the people (she won 80% of the vote!) so he must mean support of the military.

Right now, Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro’s hand-picked VP, has been sworn in as President. It’s starting to look a lot like the VP (and some members of the military?) offered Maduro up as part of a deal to stay in power. If true, that would probably be the most ‘stable’ alternative available … It beats ‘regime change’, but there’s no way we can trust Rodriguez.

I’ve got a bad feeling about this. There’s a lot of ways this can go south.

Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene are whining about it. That is proof Trump has done the right thing.

So … President Trump says the US (I’m guessing Marco Rubio … It’s not like he’s got anything else to do) will be running Venezuela “until such time as we can to a safe, proper and judicious transition” of power.

Am I the only one here experiencing déjà vu?

Watching the President’s conference.. it was/is very apparent that the US focus or rather nonnegotiable.. is the America’s.. North & South.

And that’s perfect sense.
US demographics have changed, the conditions of our neighbors are now much more important (immigration/crime/drugs/security) than Europe and we do not want China, nor Iran, nor Russia .. in the Americas.

Rubio looked very capable. Our next President could very well be bilingual.

(Cuba must be terrified. )

Latin America has always been important to the United States. The USA can not make itself immune to Latin American problems with a border wall. Oh, it’s important to have to slow down unchecked illegal immigration but one way or another, poverty, corruption and hostile foreign powers in our backyard, not to mention cartels, need to be dealt with.

Cuba has long been a spy post for foreign powers. JFK’s pledge not to invade Cuba…well, Russia agreed to honor it’s borders with Ukraine and China has been suppressing Tibet since 1950, so there.

God help the Iranians against the mullahs and the pinhead Khameni.

Recommended reading about Latin America..The Epic of Latin America by USC professor John David Crow (it’s a big book) if slightly dated, and The Guide to the Perfect Latin American Idiot by Mario Vargas Llosa, a much shorter read.

CAG, in regards to your comment that overseeing Venezuela would fall on Rubio: I heard some pundit mention the new GITMO plan: Give It To MarcO.

“Rubio:
De facto President of Venezuela.
De facto Shah of Iran?
De facto Governor of Cuba?
De facto Governor of Greenland?”

Not bad for a failed presidential run!
