What struck me about this is that it took 400 years for St John Fisher and St Thomas More to be declared saints even though both men were clearly courageous and saintly. Given the fact that we have multiple popes recently that have been declared saints within the memory of people that knew them, it seems that sainthood has become something like a participation trophy. I think if I’m going to ask for someone in heaven to intercede for me with the Lord, I’ll ask those that gave up everything for Him.

I used to think that A Man for All Seasons was perfect, but now I want a scene where Leo Kern reads Fisher’s letter and asks
“He wishes me a *Merry* Christmas. What does he mean by *that* do you suppose?”
