Hiding what’s right and embracing what’s wrong under the banner of “obedience”.. when there was/is a strong parallel with this gospel passage:
“Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours. But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant!…”
I think the looser obedience demanded of the laity is why (St) Fulton Sheen said that the laity would be the ones saving the Church, instead of the clergy.
More historical and theological research is needed to determine how this doctrine of hyper obedience developed about a dozen years ago…
