His masterful campaign to drive the British from the South in 1780-1781 deserves far more attention than it has received. He lost almost every battle he fought, but his defeats always ended in territory no longer under the control of the British and another step along the path of causing the British to abandon their effort to retain the Carolinas and Georgia as a consolation prize in losing the American Revolution. Perhaps the best American strategist of the War. Almost everything named Greene in this country is a tribute to this self-taught military genius.
Don, I wish you had links to your X postings. I often would like to give you a “like”.
Thanks JFK. I will likely add links in the future.
Agreed. A vastly under-appreciated American military leader. [We have too many of those.]
The South had been lost and Greene had to organize an army from remnants and meager reinforcements. He did, and in short order.
Sure, the British technically beat him on the battlefield, but each victory was pyrrhic. By the time the Redcoats finished winning, they had to evacuate the South.
A well regulated militia…
Thank you. Donald.
