Germans Reverting to Type?

Go here to read the story.  I am sure it is only a coincidence.

Sadly, neither the Germans nor the Russians will change. Oh, there will be happy exceptions here and there. But there is something in the makeup of both those peoples that seems to always veer towards tyranny. Maybe I am wrong. I hope I am wrong. But history seems to indicate otherwise.

Can any good come out of Germany? Except maybe cars? Although like everything German it’s over engineered. Water cooled alternators? Who thought that was a good idea?

LKL, in answer to your question, in terms of political matters, no. But culturally, the world would be a much less pleasant place without German contributions to music and literature. FWIW.

The EU commissioner has no authority to annul a provincial election in North Rhine Westphalia.

It appears as if AfD will triple their share of the vote and might just move into second place behind the Christian Democrats. They have been comparatively weak in North Rhine Westphalia, so they’re not likely to win more than 20% of the seats in the legislature.

The four candidates who died were all between the ages of 59 and 72. I’d wait to see what their families had to say.

As the article states, ” what is the likelihood that four candidates and two reserve candidates of the same political party, in the same region, would drop dead suddenly, within 13 days of each other?”
Election is on September 14. They’re all from the same party. The *reserve candidates* died too.
Coincidence seems… unlikely.

Germany’s shadow is not so far behind it as we may like to think. A 50 year old man would have had a father who could have served most of his career in the East German state and a grandfather who was old enough to play a significant role in wartime Germany.

Supposedly, they were candidates for municipal office. One candidate in each of four municipalities died. The municipalities are a mean of 48 miles apart in a German state with a population of 18 million. None of the municipalities in question have a population over 50,000 (and the average population among them is about 27,000). I think we need more information about the specific conflicts and implications in those four towns before we start lobbing accusations.

Or, like 90% of humanity in such circumstances, a father who plugged along in unremarkable jobs for 25 years in East Germany and a grandfather who spent the war as a combat grunt or supply sergeant.

“No foul play has been suggested, and local authorities pronounced two of the deaths as resulting from natural causes. Still, it is very strange…”. This reads like a Tucker Carlson story. Just asking questions but no effort to find any answers.

“… the world would be a much less pleasant place without German contributions to music and literature …”

On the balance sheet, the gains made by Wagner and Beethoven were completely wiped out in the 70s by Kraftwerk. 😀

WM Briggs has an excellent post on this in terms of the probability models and how we bring cause to them, rather than getting cause from them.
