Is he talking about the Vatican? How many people employed by the Holy See have actual dependents?
About 4800 people work at the Vatican Art. Some laity but most of them clergy.
The old adage;
A Pilgrim; “So. Tell me. How many people work at the Vatican.”
A staffer; “Almost half.”
Absolute monarchs can do whatever they want.
This is not news.
Democracy is slow, sloppy, in efficient and totally not dependent on the judgement of just one man.
The same generous benefits can be abolished in an instant. Just ask the TLM crowd.
I don’t know of the target of the dig, but based on my talks with younger folks at our parish, I’m not sure how well it’s taken if it sounds like the target is paid family leave, disability pay for parents, or bigger family allowances (not sure what that last one is, but optics as they say).
