Gustavus Adolphus: “Such a bright, cheery tune! And truly talented and disciplined musicians. A bit odd for a military march, but no matter. What are the lyrics?”
After the answer: “I’m glad I died at Lutzen!”
Ok I guess… Abba was from Sweden…

In another 20 years, it’ll be something from Ace of Bass. sigh
I love it!
I saw the changing of the guard in Stockholm 40 years ago. I compared it to the one at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in DC and thought the Swedish soldiers were laughable. Long hair. Slouching. Very little precision compared to US Marines. I see they have improved!
Seems like something dreamed up for a cutaway on Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
Regina Saltans
(Versus 1)
Saltare potes, agitare potes, tempus optimum vivens
O, vide illam puellam, specta illum aspectum, amans reginam saltandi
(Chorus)
Vespera quinta et lumina humilia
Quaerens locum quo eamus
Ubi musicam bonam canunt, in rhythmum incipiens
Tu venis regem quaerens
(Versus 2)
Quisquis ille puer esse potest
Scis te saltare posse, et volare posse
Quaerens locum quo eamus
Ubi musicam bonam canunt, in rhythmum incipiens
(Chorus)
Saltare potes, agitare potes, tempus optimum vivens
O, vide illam puellam, specta illum aspectum, amans reginam saltandi
(Pontus)
Tu es regina saltandi, iuvenis et dulcis, tantum septendecim annos nata
Regina saltandi, sentiens rhythmum ex tympano
Saltare potes, agitare potes, tempus optimum vivens
O, vide illam puellam, specta illum aspectum, amans reginam saltandi
(Chorus)
Saltare potes, agitare potes, tempus optimum vivens
O, vide illam puellam, specta illum aspectum, amans reginam saltandi
(Outro)
Saltare potes, agitare potes, tempus optimum vivens
O, vide illam puellam, specta illum aspectum, amans reginam saltandi

Wow! Ha! I wish I could send that translation back to teenage me, I loved ABBA music and was consumed to be a Latin teacher in my teen years.
I am surprised to see imperative singular in verse one? My gut reaction would have been imperative plural.
