The ignorance that so many people have as to the basic history of this country should never be underestimated.

There’s a clip on X of Marines training in Jiujitsu to take down and arrest. Perfectly natural.
I fear that ignorance of history will increase with AI with an infused superiority never before seen. It’s going to take a lot of work to correct, but the light at the end of the tunnel is knowledge of history.
When Albert Gore (IIRC) was promoting the use of the regular military for drug interdiction, I seem to recall a talk show interviewing a law enforcement official whose view was that was inadvisable because military services and police services have different objects and different training protocols. IMO, I’d prefer the use of militias for riot control, provided they were properly trained. (The WWii veteran in my circle of friends maintained the National Guard had a terrible reputation among his contemporaries ca. 1943 and the Kent State mess in 1970 surprised him not one bit. Hope things have improved).

If they think the situation can benefit from Marines, by all means. (I suppose).
It’s not just ignorance of history, Donald. These people know nothing about science, mathematics, literature, religion, civics, etc. They don’t know the difference between a meter and a yard, a neutron and proton, a whale and a fish. They are dumber than dirt but think that their opinions count for something and that those worthless opinions deserve respect. I say horse manure.
Ike sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock.
I’m pretty sure the Marines were in LA during the Rodney King riots. Pat Buchanan once told the (apocryphal?) story of how the LAPD unit they were with asked the Marines to cover them while they entered a building where shots had been fired.
For infantry Marines, “to cover” means to lay down suppressing fire. Accordingly, they–so it’s said–lit up the front of that building like nobody’s business. The police were horrified and started screaming “cease fire.” (I guess they cleared up the confusion later.)
Fr. J:
Bet the dudes in the building dropped their guns REAL quick.
All these urban warriors who think they’re cosplaying the barricades scene from “Les Miserables” should realize those Parisians lost in 1848, and even more in 1871. Let the USMC play the third maniple of the Roman century: the veterans who stood ready to back up the first two lines who did the first round of skirmishing.
Go for the guys with the foreign flags first.
The media narrative that Trump is acting like a dictator bully by sending military riot squads to contain the violence of these protests is…not surprising. The media will twist and lie to invoke outrage by those easily outraged.
But the good thing is everyone has a phone.
You only have to jump onto social media for 10minutes to see actual reporting by regular people: how appalled Hispanic US citizens, black and whites alike are cause they are sharing footage of: people looting, smashing businesses, burning the US flag and chanting (a young pretty blonde girl was taking arty photos and looking pleased with herself), BLM and Palestinians getting in on the action, attacks on police, foul language, hysterical violent behaviour….and not pit blame on illegal Hispanics. The fact that they are being spurned on by “leftist purple-haired jihadis” Americans is so obvious. 😂
It’s comical that the MSM and their fan base stick their heads in the sand and pretend we don’t live in an age where anyone can show up their lies and narratives simply by taking footage of what’s ACTUALLY going on.
If I’m as far removed geographically from LA and can see whats going on, then imagine the rest of the world. Trump needs to triple the military presence and make no apologies. I’m certain the silent majority are tired of the feral “protesters”.
Use of troops started with George Washington and Shay’s rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion. Demonstrators should be thankful the troops didn’t follow Napoleon’s remedy of “a whiff of grape”.
