Holy Tuesday: Scourging of the Temple

45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought.

46 Saying to them: It is written: My house is the house of prayer. But you have made it a den of thieves.  47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. And the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people sought to destroy him:  48 And they found not what to do to him: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

I wonder if Jesus had witnessed Mary and Joseph being cheated by money changers on one of their trips to the Temple to offer sacrifice?  No doubt the subject  came up in Joseph’s carpenter shop by men of Nazareth talking to Joseph and grumbling about what they had experienced at the Temple.  Once Jesus did this he touched the third rail of too many religious organizations, the money, and doubtless the talk about what to do about Him by the Temple elite became more pointed and deadly after this incident.
