Unfortunately, the Code of Canon Law was dumbed down in 1983 to eliminate the penalty of automatic excommunication for joining the stone cutters. It’s now subject to a “just punishment.” In this case, that probably means no punishment by anyone with authority to impose it. At least not under this pope.
