Not too shabby considering that a fair number of Catholics in this country regard being a Democrat as their true ancestral faith. I assume the number was higher among Catholics who go to Mass weekly.

Indeed. I know three really close family members for whom being liberal Democrats is at least on par with being Catholic. Definitely in that 40% of the Harris vote, they were.
A local priest otherwise orthodox gave a homily before the election about choosing between the lesser of two evils, stating that there was little difference between one side supporting abortion and IVF outright, and the other side deferring abortion to the states and not opposing IVF. I called him out on it. He block me on Twitter / X. Well, I was never welcome at his parish anyways. Priests like him are the reason why so many Catholics voted for anti-Catholic Harris. Oh, BTW, here is what I said to him – the reason why he blocked me:
Dear Father,
Good homily. I see many saying that this election is a choice between the lesser of two evils [as you did]. Well, Kamala Harris is evil, but Donald Trump, even with all his defects of character and shortcomings, is NOT evil. Yes, his capitulation on some parts of the abortion issue and his tolerance of homosexuality are 100% wrong. But he won’t jail Christians for praying outside abortuaries; Kamala will. Now that said, I prefer the Constitution Party or even the Solidarity Party, both of which are solidly pro-life and pro-sanctity of marriage. But neither of those parties has a ghost of a chance in winning. Nevertheless, because my State of South Carolina will likely go to Trump, I may vote third party anyways as a matter of principle [I didn’t do that – I voted for Trump]. However, a Trump victory is infinitely preferable to a Kamala victory. She would begin open persecution of Christians; Trump won’t.
Respectfully,
PWP

LQC,
I can’t help wondering if that parish priest doesn’t have a blog (or used to have), was a convert, and immediately began pontificating (online) about all sorts of things.
If it’s who I’m thinking of, I’m not surprised that you are–to his loss–persona non grata at his parish. Nor that he would block you. The all but infallible sign of a soul that is sympathetic to left-wing politics, if not dodgy in other ways.
You’d always be welcome at my little “parish”!
