If there was a competition for the cleverest people on the planet, I would place my money on the Jews.

Iv’e heard of reaching out and touching somebody but this one is beyond AT&T.
Living by the sword has consequences.
4,000 Hezbollah? It’s a good start.
In Sci Fi.. the Jews as a people remind me of the Encyclopedists in Issac Asimov’s book Foundation Trilogy…
“If humanity follows its current path, the Empire will fall and 30,000 years of turmoil will overcome humanity before a second empire arises. However, an alternative path allows for the intervening years to be only 1,000 if Seldon is allowed to collect the most intelligent minds and create a compendium of all human knowledge, entitled the Encyclopedia Galactica. The board is still wary, but allows Seldon to assemble whomever he needs, provided he and the “Encyclopedists” are exiled to a remote planet, Terminus.”
With only their intelligence, and scant natural resources, the Encyclopedists not only survive but prosper against all odds in their Foundation….
The exploding pager operation also gave the Israelis exact knowledge of where every Hezballah terrorist was at the time, and of any contacts they may have had — the Intel equivalent of winning the lottery.
Once again – Lebanon is just a playground and Iran gets away with it. This just puts burden on the Lebanese hospital system and forces the medics attention away from the citizens who actually need medical care. Clever? Yes. But the collateral damage are the Lebanese people. They may want to try that one in Iran next time. Plenty of cockroaches there.
I hear Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon had his pager explode too … Now what would he be doing with a Hezbollah pager? 😀
@CAG 😂 Stocks in pagers just dropped in the ME. I wonder how Big Tech would feel about donating a few thousand smart phones for distribution in Tehran. We’ll just get Mossad to do a QA on them first.
Israel is a more or less reliable ally for the U.S. Beyond that, it is a pretty unsavory little country, from its beginnings, with its terrorism against the British, up to the present day, with its disregard for non-combatants’ lives that would make Genghis Khan uncomfortable. (If any Catholics are so deluded as to think that modern Judaism is simply the Old Testament in practice, they are very much mistaken. Although … certain Old Testament behaviors seem to live on in the modern Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews.) Nevertheless, Israel is more probably a better alternative than yet another fanatical Arab state.
Fr. J, I do not have direct knowledge, but have been told by credible people who do have such knowledge that the IDF goes to as great lengths as are feasible under the circumstances to minimize civilian casualties. That job is made much harder when your enemy blatantly surrounds its military assets with civilians, in every way imaginable, then bleats to the world about how many of those noncombatants they claim are killed or wounded when those military targets are struck. Israel is in a battle for its very existence. I can’t blame them for acting like it. I abhor every innocent death from whatever cause, but Gen. Sherman was right, war is Hell.
Anybody else suddenly far less comfortable about the cell phone in their pocket?

I imagine some people got a hell of a butt-dial.

yikes!!! 🫨
Not exactly the choice I might have made but considering the other end of the choice selection (not) made with our botched Afghan withdrawal, I’ll opt for what gets the job done.
Now we have a story of exploding radios: 14 more Hezbo-losers zapped, according to National Review. Those guys are gonna have to switch to semaphore and carrier pigeons.
There’s always a risk of friendly fire with carrier pigeons.
Oh, c’mon Pinky! Israel’s space lasers are far too precise for that! 😀
If you can’t open your cell phone, you are right to be worried.
I’m not saying that any of the current round of smart phones are similarly booby trapped, but I am saying that Deep State Agents seeing this will have as their first thought “gee, I wonder if we can use that technique on our enemies” where of course the enemies of the deep state are us.
