The Democrats are having their convention in The Windy City, just 70 miles from me, this week and a few thoughts occur to me:
- What role if any will the protests play?- Businesses near the convention boarded up, fearing that the party of peace and love will bring a lot of mayhem with it. The Democrats have built walls and fences to keep the protesters away from the convention site. I assume some will get in anyway. The rest? Out on the streets I doubt they will be happy. They will be confronting Chicago Cops who, unlike their predecessors in 68, know that the City will throw them to the progressive wolves in a nano second. Any crowd mayhem will probably meet with a tardy and inadequate police response. We shall see.
- Biden-Jilted Joe will be speaking the first night. I do envy the discipline of the party of the Jackass. So instead of talking about how he was forced out of the presidential race, I expect Biden to be a good soldier, praise Harris to the skies and exit stage left. I have heard talk that perhaps Biden would resign due to his bitterness. Not a chance. He has seen himself as President since he was elected to the Senate back when I was 15. They will have to use animal darts to get him out of the Oval Office in January. Perhaps there may be some fireworks from Doctor Jill, who I assume is bitterness incarnate right now, but she is being kept under tight raps.
- Ex-Presidents–Obama and Bill Clinton will be speaking later in the week. Far better orators than Kamala the tongue tied, they probably will care little if they outshine her. The consistent rumor is that Obama wanted an open convention and that Biden endorsed Harris out of spite against the man who cost him his delusion that he could get a second term. Obama’s endorsement of Harris by cell phone lends credence to that. As always, the Clintons have their own agenda, and I doubt if the deadlier half of that duo is eager to see Harris usurp what she regards as her place in history.
- Harris-I assume she will manage to give an adequate speech read from monitors. She will act as if she has had nothing to do with the disasters confronting the country. She will be acclaimed afterwords by Dems and most of the media, as if there is a difference, as the Second Coming of FDR, this time as a brown skin woman. Thus far she has had the advantage of being generic Democrat against Orange Man Bad. That advantage will fade as the spaces are filled in about her.
- Obsolete-This farce will demonstrate how outdated political conventions have become. In a situation that cries out for an open convention, the delegates of Biden dutifully fell into line, acting as if this sort of unprecedented event is business as normal. The Democrats these days talk a lot about democracy, and make sure it is practiced as little as possible.
I will report if anything interesting occurs.

Forgive me, please, if I have posted this before here at TAC, but if you have a moment, please offer prayers for the police being sent to deal with this extremely dangerous situation. We always should do that, of course, but in this case one of them happens to be my nephew, who is an Illinois State Trooper. Thanks!
#2 A baby butchering bus is on hand.
I think he means the
The portable altar of sacrifice.
Let’s be crystal clear here.
btw..
Prayers for Franks nephew and all law enforcement going up.
Also be sure
notto miss JB the Hutt Pritzker, aka the World’s Dumbest Billionaire, addressing the convention Tuesday night, in an attempt to replicate Barack Obama’s 2004 convention address that made him the next “rising star” of the Dem Party.==
IMO, we could replace the presidential nominating donnybrooks with a multi-stage petition process to designate candidates for president. The party conventions & c. would be concerned with intramural party business. Aspirants circulate paper petitions among municipal councillors, county councillors, and school commissioners in order to produce a ‘Long List’, and then state and territorial legislators cast ballots on the ‘Long List’ in order to produce a ‘Short List’. You start circulating the paper petitions around 15 November, you set the filing date the 4th week of March, and then you have a challenge period with a drop dead date the 1st week of June. Then you have meet and greets in the state capitols and balloting on the ‘long list’ around the 2d week of August. Then you have the conventions over a three week period.

Convention delegates might be elected in single-member districts over two Saturdays in June. Some state parties might use primary elections and some might use precinct caucuses followed by district caucuses. You hold the convention over a period of days in August. The convention would be concerned with choosing alternate delegates to a body replacing the national committees, considering amendments to party by-laws, considering amendments to a draft platform, and showcasing the party’s presidential candidates. The convention might consider a resolution to deny the party brand to one or another prospective candidate, compelling him to run as a non-partisan candidate, but would not be nominating candidates.
In lieu of the national committees, the convention might be co-equal to but functionally distinct ‘standing conference’ which would consist of elected officials, quondam candidates for federal and statewide office, and alternates elected by the convention and whose membership would be largely ex officio and reset every two years in mid-December. The conference could elect the four or five national officers and a board-of-trustees of about thirty members.

Ideally, the semi-elective vice presidency is replaced with appointed vice presidents who preside over mini cabinets composed of portfolios of federal departments and agencies. If the presidency falls vacant, you have an order of succession delineated in law. If it’s late enough in a president’s term, the successor just finishes out the term. Otherwise, you have balloting by state and territorial legislatures to pick a replacement.
I doubt Elaine if even the Democrats are quite that foolish.
Over the weekend I kept seeing escalating estimates of how many protestors will descend on the convention. First it was 50,000, then it was 100,000, then 150,000; at this rate the protestors will outnumber actual Chicago residents before the week is over. Seriously, though, I kinda doubt there would be more than 10,000 or 20,000 tops. Why should George Soros or whoever is funding these rent a mobs pay for 100,000+ demonstrators when 10,000 is more than enough to cause havoc — any more than Joe Kennedy Sr. wanted to “pay for a landslide” when JFK was running for POTUS?
Good point.
There’s a scifi story, “Franchise” by Isaac Asimov, in which a computer chooses one man to elect the president. Might be better than the present method.
Praying, Frank. Will remember him and law enforcement at tomorrow’s Mass during the Consecration.
@Dr. Kurland –> with the way that Artificial Intelligence is evolving, Franchise may become reality:

One of the Asimov stories that I missed in my youth. I must rectify that omission in my late adulthood.
Taxpayers were cheated out of nearly 1 billion dollars in 2024 to augment Worse Than Murder Inc. $320k plus for an annual salary as an chief executioner officer. There’s blood money and then there’s blood money.
STOPP’s 2023 report on the salaries of PP CEOs, Planned Parenthood Great Rivers (formerly named Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri), which is the PP affiliate giving out the free DNC abortions, was in the top 25 for the abortion peddler’s highest-paid CEOs. The Great Rivers CEO took in an incredible $327,733 for working at the so called ‘nonprofit,’” Katie Brown reported.
