Catholicism should never be apologetic or ashamed. Catholics should acclaim the Church proudly in the public square. (I feel the same about American patriotism, and that is one of the principles that has motivated The American Catholic lo these sixteen years.) As Saint Francis said, Let gloom and despair be among the Devil and his disciples.Â

Wow. I thought the monstrance at the Shrine in Hanceville, AL put there by Mother Angelica was the biggest, at a little over seven feet tall. This one looks to be twice that. Vivat Jesus!
I live outside of Baton Rouge but didn’t go. Everyone I know did. Here’s a link to video of the Fete Dieu du Mississippi. The procession is still going on via tug down the Mississippi to New Orleans where it will conclude with a Solemn Mass tomorrow evening.
