We used to send dogs like that to the farm for possible rehabilitation after the second bite.

Commander is a German Shepherd. Speaking from experience we grew up with one and it’s in that breeds nature to protect their owner. It’s a guard dog. Ours bit (more grazed her arm) a teenager visiting her friend across the road when my brother was taking him for a walk. She reached to pat him (without asking first – rookie error) and he jumped up and bit her because in his mind he was protecting my brother. Unfortunately she reported it and we were told if it happens again we would face a hefty fine and the dog would be taken away. Unfortunately after that, the dog became a little too aggressive as a family dog and we decided to take him to the RSPCA and he was put down. The RSPCA told us once they bite once they develop a taste for it. It was the hardest day for our family having to take him there and I remember it as a loss of a family member. We were pretty upset for a long time after that. German Shepherds are intelligent – ours would sit next to my grandmother who had a walking stick every time she went out to the garden- and was very careful around her. Unfortunately his nature (as with all animals) got the better of him.

Commander is just going to keep biting because he has done it before and will keep ding it. It’s in their nature.
