“Banal” is absolutely right. And I seriously doubt a network of artists could tackle a 5 pound house cat.
Where is Christ in all this?
LQC, if one could produce a “word cloud” based on all the publicly reported utterances of Jorge Bergoglio since he was made pope, I wager that the words Jesus, Christ, and Salvation (and their derivatives) would be among the smallest.
The world needs artists.
Is that perhaps the excuse for the kid glove treatment of Rupnik?
All we ever hear from you is blah, blah, blah
So, all we ever do is go nah, nah, nah
And we don’t even care about what they say
‘Cause it’s nah-nah, nah-nah
Blah-blah, blah-blah
All we ever hear from you is
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…

Artists can and should be encouraged to spread the gospel message of salvation in the name of Christ to all nations and all people. Hopefully that was also clearly expressed.
Yes the world does need artists. Good artists. To make good art. To portray Gods beauty through their art.
Heard of the “starving artist”? Rarely do artists see the success of their craft during their lifetime. So why ask them to change the world when they themselves struggle to make a living out of their art.
Art in the churches were the catechisms for the illiterate. Sadly much of the religious art in recent years does not give glory to God.
