I had contact with Fr. Rutler in a professional capacity on and off over for more than a year. A more soft spoken, brilliant, classically educated, interesting and faithful Catholic priest would be hard to find. Not surprised he got that treatment from Pope Peron.
LKL,agreed, and let’s not forget his own bishop, Cardinal Dolan, who must have known about the case given Fr. Rutler’s high visibility. If I recall correctly, the good Cardinal pretty much left Fr. Rutler swinging in the breeze. I will be happy to be corrected on that point.
