Thought For The Day
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 41 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
I heard that same story. But I think the exchange was between a different pope and a different saint.
And yet, use of the word “Catholic” is so unrestricted that even a university can use it.
Then again, the USCCB’s track record on defining what is Catholic is not great either.
“Then again, the USCCB’s track record on defining what is Catholic is not great either.”
How true. They pretty much tossed that ball right over the playground fence when they rolled over for the “Land O’ Lakes” nonsense back in 1967, and didn’t strip every one of the participating schools of the right to call themselves Catholic.

TBH, I never quote the NAB anyhow. It’s a poor translation. The RSVCE is much better. The Orthodox Study Bible is also better, even though the Orthodox canon includes some bits (like the 151st Psalm or 3 Maccabees) not in the Catholic canon. If I want a free Catholic Bible, though, there’s always the Douay-Rheims and the Vulgate.
